The Sky Tower is an observation and telecommunications tower located on the corner of Victoria and Federal Streets in the Auckland CBD, Auckland City, New Zealand.
It is 328 metres tall, as measured from ground level to the top of the mast, making it the tallest free-standing structure in the Southern Hemisphere, and the 12th tallest tower in the world (taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris or Sydney's AMP Tower).
It has been designed to remain essentially undamaged during storms with winds gusting to 200 km/hr (125 mph), which can result in sway at the top of the concrete shaft of approximately one metre. In the extreme event of a magnitude 8.0 earthquake occurring within 20 kilometres of the tower, analysis shows that Sky Tower would remain standing. What about KLCC??
Skycity looks rather smaller than I thought but it could somehow fits casino, restaurants and bars, as well as 4 and 5 star luxury hotels.
I was a lil cheapskate cause I would only pay student price! Remember the previous post on shuttle bus to Auckland city? Always ask for student price! I paid NZD$18 and Lern paid NZD$28. Now you see the luxurious of being a student? Free ka-ching from papa and paying lower than everyone else.
The glass flooring inside the observation deck
Taken by Lern since he's not afraid of height but I am!
It has three observation decks at different heights with each providing 360 degree views of the city. We then adjourned to top observation deck, Skydeck for higher view but I reckon it does not make any difference since it's higher by few metres. I suppose?
Mini Harbour Bridge. I think it resembles Sydney Harbour Bridge, copy cat!
The Volcanic Island, Rangitoto Island. We had an initial plan to visit Rangitoto Island but it was somehow cancelled as we overslept. Remember we were given a complimentary upgrade to deluxe room?
Trying to squeeze the island
The adrenaline rush adventure, SKYJUMP which can be described as Base Jumping while attached to a wire.
Later, we headed back to main observatory level for some coffee besides the view again :)
However, the hot chocolate tastes like uhmmm chocolate with more and more water. Big disappointment!
Lern was planning on the schedule but nothing comes up. :P
I actually did not know what structure is this until the place we went the next day.
So what's next? Adventure to Māori settlement and sheeeeeeeeeeeeeep!
