It's that time of the year...
Half slab of Pork ribs - RM55
What comes into your mind when Bavarian food is mentioned? As all of us know, Bavarian cooking is tasty, filling and not exactly for weight-watchers. Brotzeit is another new Bavarian restaurant in the town which serves an extensive arrays of German beers, all imported specially for Brotzeit from Bavaria and brewed according to the German Purity law from 1516 (Reinheitsgebot) with pure spring water and natural ingredients only.
The ribs was mediocre and the meat could have been fork tender. There are also spice that nullify the flavor of the meat. Perhaps it's just my taste bud but ultimately, they are not one of the best pork ribs I've tried. Fyi, pork ribs is not on the menu. As I arrived home and did a quick google search, it appeared pork knuckle is their signature dishes that I must not miss (which I had already missed, grrr!)
Bockwurst - RM34
Two smoked fine pork sausages served with potato salad and sauerkraut was better than I thought. Flavorful and juicy but anyhow, they tasted like regular sausages served in upscale restaurant. The potato salad resembles mashed potato (yes, we thought it was mashed potato!) was acerbic. Two basic types of potato salad are made in Germany. In the north, potato salad is generally based on mayonnaise and quite similar to its U.S. counterpart. In the southern regions of Swabia and Bavaria and in Austria, Kartoffelsalat(German potato salad) is mixed with hot broth, oil and vinegar.
Affensaft Mango 0.5L - RM29
Weissbier with mango juice
Brotzeit also serves 4 beers from Paulaner Munich on the tap; Weissbier, Weissbier Dunkel(dark), Original Munich Lager, and Original Munich Lager Dunkel. You can select from a variety of premium and specialty beers in bottle. When Weissbier, also known as natural wheat beer meets mango juice, it created a peculiar beer. I had the first sip and I was a tad infatuated. To my dismay every subsequent sips was disappointing as we found out the mango juice was overpowering. 0.3 litre is just fine, like seriously fine unless you've got sweet tooth.
The service was commendable and the contemporary interior predominately uses wooden tables and chic leather chairs. The ambiance was convivial but it could be further improved. I would prefer a live performance by German band to intensify the atmosphere while people savor Bavarian's top-notch pork knuckle, swigging beer and singing to loud Bavarian music.
Though the price is on the steep side, it still warrants multiple visits as I am keen to sample the signature dish, pork knuckle.
All in all, 2010 had been a good year. Prost (Cheers) to a brand new year! Have a great year ahead!
